Manage business

After you have created your Sovos Unclaimed Property account, you can edit your business’s information and add additional information, such as state FEIN extensions and state assigned IDs, on the Business Information page.

Read the articles on the report signer and contacts for details about editing that information.

Edit business information

Follow these steps to edit your business’s information:

  1. On the side menu, click Business Information.
  2. On the Overview tab, edit any of the following fields:
    • Business basics
      • Registered business name: The legal name of your business, up to 40 characters.
      • Federal Employer ID Number (FEIN): The nine-digit number assigned by the IRS to identify your business, with no dashes. For example, 123456789.

We only support one FEIN per account.

      • NAICS code: The six-digit North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code that identifies your business type, with no dashes. For example, 123456. This field is only required if you are reporting to Tennessee. Visit the Census website for a list of accepted NAICS codes.
    • Business address: Your business’s address information.
    • Business details
      • Business category: Read the article on business categories for a definition of each one.
      • State/province/territory of incorporation: The place where your company is licensed to do business. It might be different from your physical location.
      • Business start date: The date on which your company was licensed to do business. If your business is a savings and loan association, bank, or credit union, enter the date when your organization was chartered.
  1. Click Save.

State FEIN extensions

A state FEIN extension is a four-digit number assigned by a state to identify your business, with no dashes. For example, 1234. Florida and Oklahoma might assign a FEIN extension to your business if you have previously reported to them.

If you don’t enter a state FEIN extension, the system enters a default value of “0001” when you report to Florida and Oklahoma. If you have reported to Florida or Oklahoma before but don’t know your state FEIN extension, contact the state. You can find state-specific contact information under Address Information on the By State/Province tab of the Compliance Resources page.

To manage your state FEIN extensions, follow these steps:

  1. On the side menu, click Business Information.
  2. On the Overview tab, add, edit, or delete your State FEIN extensions.
  3. Click Save.

State assigned IDs

A state assigned ID is a string of letters and numbers assigned by a state to identify your business. For example, 12345 or 1234567890ABC. States might assign an ID to your business if you have previously reported to them.

Some states call their state assigned ID a company number, holder number, or UPID. If you have reported to a state before but don’t know your state assigned ID, contact the state. You can find state-specific contact information under Address Information on the By State/Province tab of the Compliance Resources page.

To manage your state assigned IDs, follow these steps:

  1. On the side menu, click Business Information.
  2. On the Overview tab, scroll down to the State assigned IDs section.
    • To add a state assigned ID, click Add a state assigned ID. Then, select a State from the dropdown and enter your ID in the Assigned ID field.
    • Use the State dropdown and Assigned ID field to edit an existing state assigned ID.
    • Click the X next to a row to delete the state assigned ID.
  1. Click Save.
