To start using Sovos' Unclaimed Property software, enter your business’s information. This information is required and will be used to identify your business on state reports and due diligence letters. Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*).
You can edit this information later on the Business Information page.
Basic Information
- Enter the following basic information about your business, then click Next.

- Federal Employer ID Number (FEIN): The nine-digit number assigned by the IRS to identify your business, with no dashes. For example, 123456789.
- Registered business name: The legal name of your business, up to 40 characters.

Business address: If your company address is the same as the billing address you entered at checkout, select the checkbox. If not, fill out the address fields.
The Business address fields have the following character limits:- Street address - 30 characters
- Apartment, suite, building - 30 characters
- City - 30 characters
- Postal code - 10 characters
The Registered business name and Business address character limits are based on NAUPA requirements. If you exceeded a character limit during the checkout process, the field is automatically shortened to meet these requirements.
Business Details
- Select the State/province/territory of incorporation of your business from the dropdown. This is the place where your company is licensed to do business. It might be different from your physical location.
- Select a Business category, then click Next.

- Corporation is the most common. Read the article on business categories for a definition of each one.
Signer
The report signer is the person at your business whose name and details will be printed on state report cover sheets. This information is required when reporting.
For some states, the signer might also need to be available to physically sign reports.
This person is often an officer of the company, such as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
- Enter the report signer’s name, title, and contact information. Then, click Next.
Contact
The contact is the person who needs to be available if states or property owners reach out with questions about unclaimed properties.
Do you have two contacts, one for states and one for property owners? Add a second contact on the Contacts page and label the state contact as Report Contact and the owner contact as Claim Contact on the Business Information page.
- Enter the contact’s name and contact information. Then, click Finish.
